“My dog is healthy… but why is there this brownish residue on his bed or fur?”

Brown Residue: What It Could Be

➡️ Flea Dirt

This is one of the most common culprits. Flea dirt looks like tiny black or reddish specks, and it’s actually flea poop (gross, we know). It turns reddish-brown when we, so if you’re seeing stains on bedding or around the tail/back, check for fleas!

➡️ Seborrhea

This is a skin condition (kind of like dandruff in dogs!) that can cause oily or flaky skin. The result? Greasy, brownish debris that shows up on fur, collars, or bedding.

➡️ Skin Debris from Infrequent Baths

Healthy pets that get bathed regularly shouldn’t leave any residue behind. If they do, it might mean their coat isn’t being cleaned properly or frequently enough.

What You Can Do
✔️ Check for Fleas (and use preventative treatments regularly)

✔️ Stick to a consistent bathing schedule (ask us what’s best for your pet’s coat type!)

✔️ Book a grooming appointment to deep clean and spot skin issues early

✔️ Consult your vet if the residue keeps coming back, it could be a sign of something deeper, like allergies or an infection
