The Dirty Truth About Bird Cages
Birds may be small—but they can create a lot of mess. And when their space isn’t cleaned often enough, it can lead to:
🚫 Respiratory issues
🚫 Stress and behavioral problems
🚫 Bacterial buildup and illness
So… how often should you really be cleaning their cage?
Your Bird Cage Cleaning Schedule
Daily:
• Change cage liner or paper
• Refill food & water bowls
• Wipe down perches and mess-prone areas
Weekly:
• Clean and disinfect food/water dishes
• Wash perches, toys, and tray
• Check for signs of mold or droppings buildup
Monthly (or bi-weekly if needed):
• Deep-clean the entire cage with bird-safe disinfectant
• Scrub grates, bars, and all corners
• Rotate or replace old toys
Tip: The cleaner the cage, the more your bird will thrive—and sing!
If your feathered friend seems extra cranky or sneezy… it might be time for a deep clean.
