Hey pet parents!

Can we talk about something that doesn't get enough attention?

Multi-pet households. Specifically, the ones with both a dog AND a cat living under the same roof. 🐶🐱

Because if you've got both, you already know the dynamic. The dog is loud and dramatic about everything. The cat is judging everyone silently from a high shelf. And somehow, against all odds, they actually kind of love each other.

So today we're sharing something a little special…

a treat recipe that works for BOTH of them. At the same time. No separate batches, no pet parent favoritism, no drama.

Well... maybe a little drama. It's a cat. There's always drama. 😄

Here's what you'll need:

  • 1 can tuna in water, drained

  • 1/2 cup mashed sweet potato

  • 1 tbsp oat flour (optional — just helps with texture)

That's it. Three ingredients. You've got this. 🙌

Introducing: Tuna & Sweet Potato Jerky

Simple ingredients. Big love. And two very happy pets at the end of it.

This one is honestly one of our favorites because it's easy to make, uses ingredients you can grab at any grocery store, and is genuinely good for both cats and dogs. Not just tolerated. Actually good for them.

Why this treat is actually good for your pets.

Tuna is a fantastic source of lean protein and omega-3 fatty acids. Great for coat health, joint support, and energy in both cats and dogs. Cats especially benefit from high-quality animal protein since they're obligate carnivores and need it more than dogs do.

Sweet potato is one of those ingredients that quietly does a lot of good. It's rich in fiber, which supports healthy digestion, packed with vitamins A and C, and naturally sweet enough that most pets go absolutely wild for it.

Together they make a treat that's protein-packed, nutrient-rich, and easy on the stomach, which is exactly what you want when you're feeding two different animals with two different digestive systems.

Here's what you do:

Mix all the ingredients until well combined. The mixture should be thick enough to hold its shape when spooned out. If it feels too wet, the oat flour helps bring it together.

Spoon small portions onto a lined baking tray. Keep them small, think bite-sized for your dog, even smaller for your cat.

Bake at 300°F for about 25 minutes or until the treats are dry and chewy. Let them cool completely before serving.

Then stand back and watch two very different animals agree on something for once. 😄

A few things to keep in mind. 🐾

Always introduce new treats gradually. Even healthy ones. Start with one or two pieces and see how your pets respond before making it a regular thing.

If your cat or dog has any known health conditions, food sensitivities, or is on a special diet, check with your vet before introducing new foods. This is especially important for cats with kidney issues or dogs with sensitive stomachs.

And as always, treats should be exactly that. A treat. Not a meal replacement. Keep portions small and save the big servings for the love and cuddles. 🥰

One more thing.

If your pets are spending time with us at Precious Petcare, whether it's daycare, boarding, or a pet-sitting visit, know that the same love and attention you put into making them homemade treats is the energy we bring to every single visit.
